The Algarve stretches along Portugal's south coast from the Spanish border west to Cape St Vincent. The western half is known for honey coloured cliffs, rock arches and sea caves, such as the Benagil cave and the rock formations of Ponta da Piedade near Lagos.

Resorts range from lively Albufeira and the marina at Vilamoura to smaller towns such as Carvoeiro and Tavira. In the east, the lagoons and islands of the Ria Formosa natural park stretch past Faro.

The region is also popular for golf, with many courses around Vilamoura and Quinta do Lago.
