Naples is loud, busy and full of life. It is also the most practical base we know for the Bay of Naples, with Pompeii, Vesuvius, the islands and the Amalfi Coast all within a day's trip.
In the city
The historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Naples is where pizza as we know it was born. The National Archaeological Museum holds many of the finds from Pompeii and Herculaneum, so it is worth a visit before or after the ruins.
Around the bay
Pompeii and Herculaneum, buried by Vesuvius in AD 79, are a short train ride from the city, and you can walk up to the crater of Vesuvius itself. To the south, the Sorrento peninsula leads to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello, and ferries run to Capri and Ischia.
Our Naples holidays
Our five nights at Grand Hotel Vesuvio are on the seafront, with breakfast and direct flights from Gatwick. easyJet and Jet2 fly London to Naples in about 2 hours 40 minutes.
